Biofeedback is especially useful when dealing with stress, anxiety and pain. Biofeedback is a means of learning, through the use of technological devices, how to control and monitor your central nervous system and your autonomic nervous system to benefit you with your life. It is a wonderful tool and adjunct to other therapies including Meditation, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Psychotherapy. 
Dr. Forrest utilizes a user friendly program combined with finger sensors (monitoring your Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and Skin Conductance Levels (SCL) to help you develop new skills that will  last a life time.  Thus improving the quality of your life and those around you. 
The program is set up for a series of sessions over several weeks.  Each session builds upon the next, increasing your skills as you practice. The series generally takes  between 12-15 weeks, with a minimum of one weekly session in the office with your practicing outside the office in between sessions. 
However, the time line is individualized and some clients upon reaching their original goal  challenge themselves even more and add an optional 4 more training sessions  (or degrees of difficulty) to their work and skills. These options and others such as seeing the doctor twice a week (speeds up the process significantly), can be discussed with the doctor at the time of your initial appointment. 
Heart Rate Varibility
Is calculated from the differences in heart rate from one heartbeat to another.  No two intervals are exactly the same. Greater HRV is a healthy goal.  In fact, people who exhibit greater HRV tend to live longer and enjoy life more.

Research suggests that when you increase your HRV you can reach a state of coherence within the power spectrum frequencies of the heart that signals the brain to synchronize with the heart and boost the immune system

Skin conductance Level
Measures sweat gland activity. Increased perspiration indicates increased autonomic nervous system activation, which is associated with increased energy-- both positive, like excitement and negative like nervousness.
